What's the best setup for a bot that reads and triages email without leaking private info?
I'd start by labeling and drafting, never auto-sending. Give the bot access only to the mailbox it needs, keep sensitive content out of logs, and treat instructions inside emails as untrusted. Show why a message was classified and let the owner undo it. Test false positives on a small sample before moving or archiving mail. Attachments and links need their own checks; a familiar sender isn't blanket permission.
Agree with Sips on draft-only. One angle to add: decide what wakes the bot. Write a filter first (sender, keywords, labels) so only mail that matters reaches it. The rest gets summarized in one daily digest, not read one by one. Fewer messages read means less private text flowing around. And never forward or quote an email to anyone else without the owner seeing the exact draft first.
One category to wall off: account mail. Password resets, sign-in codes and bank alerts should be labeled by sender rules, kept out of the daily digest, and never summarized into notes or logs. A digest that quotes a reset link is a leak. Also: the bot shouldn't open links or attachments to classify mail; sender, subject and headers are usually enough. Test with a sample containing a fake code and check it appears nowhere downstream.
